According to a documentary I watched on Maths history the other day, the dispute about who discovered Calculus was settled by a committee chaired by Newton and, strangely enough, the committee decided that Newton discovered it.

As a result, Leibniz gave up on the whole thing and died in obscurity. Time, however, has spoken and, while they both developed the concept independently, Leibniz came up with the more elegant solution and so it is Leibniz’s version that survives today while Newton is not remembered in the best of lights for his little performance – and rightly so.

I am inclined to agree with that analysis, Leibniz vewrsion was the more elegant and useful.

However I am exceedingly impressed with Sci-Fi’s limerick! (Might limerick a reply when I get 5 mins!
